Rams Stunned by SOSU, 35-0

The Angelo State football team (3-5) was handed its first shutout loss in five seasons as the Rams fell at home to Southeastern Oklahoma Saturday night, 35-0, at San Angelo Stadium.

The Rams had four turnovers and committed 14 penalties as they were handed their third loss in four games. Angelo State fell behind early to the Savage Storm, giving up two touchdowns in the first eight minutes of the game, and never regained its footing.

SOSU (3-5) struck first with 9:44 left in the first frame as quarterback Brandon McCain capped the Savage Storm's first drive with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jay Rose. McCain would later connect with Daniel Nichols for a 49-yard strike not three minutes later to give SOSU a quick 14-0 lead.

The Savage Storm added a third first-half touchdown with 7:51 remaining before the break as back-up quarterback Bo White connected with Rose on an end-around for a 50-yard score, giving SOSU a 21-0 advantage going into the locker room. Southeastern would add a 56-yard touchdown run by Baylen Laury and a seven-yard scoring connection from Dallas McCutcheon on Jerrod Temple, both in the third quarter, to complete the scoring.

The shutout marked the first such loss for ASU since the 2003 season, a span of 55 games, when the Rams fell at Eastern New Mexico, 31-0. Angelo State had not been shut out at home since the first game of the 2002 season, dropping a 38-0 decision to Tarleton State.
