LAWTON, Okla. – Right-hander
Bren Schuehler threw a complete game and struck out six as the Angelo State baseball team topped Cameron, 8-1, in its final game of 2011. Despite collecting the victory, the Rams' season comes to a close as Texas A&M-Kingsville swept East Central to clinch the No. 6 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
Angelo State closes out the 2011 campaign with a 25-23 overall record and a 19-17 conference mark. Cameron heads to the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 30-14 ledger and a 22-11 conference record.
The Rams got their bats going early as lead-off hitter
Zach Cohen reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a double down the leftfield line by catcher
Toby Semler. Cohen scored on a soft grounder to second by leftfielder
Garrett Harris which moved Semler to third. With one out, centerfielder
Joseph Leftridge dropped a double into left-center between three Aggies to plate Semler. Designated hitter
Zach Klink hit a two-out single to leftfield which scored Leftridge, however, Klink was thrown out at second trying to stretch a single into a double to end the inning with the Rams on top, 3-0.
Schuehler turned in his best performance of the season as he shut down the nation's top two hitters in Chase Larsson and Kenny Held. The duo went a combined 0-for-8 against Schuehler in the contest.
The Aggies managed to cut the Rams' lead to two (3-1) as catcher P.J. Ortega scored on a ground out to first. Ortega reached after getting hit by a pitch and moved around the bases on a ground out and a base hit. The single run would be the only one allowed by Schuehler in the game.
Cameron had a few other chances to score, but outstanding Rams' defense kept the Aggies at bay. Cohen made a diving stop in the second inning to save two runs from scoring.
Heading into the ninth and final inning of action, the Rams exploded for five runs in the frame as they knocked out Cameron starter Jerry Pajak and forced the Aggies to throw three different pitchers in the frame. Angelo State sent nine batters to the plate as senior third baseman

Chase Barrera was hit by a pitch square in the helmet, but scampered down to first unfazed, and Cohen drew a walk to load the bases with one out.
With Clay Vanderlaan now on the mound in relief of Pajak, Semler collected his 25
th RBI of the season as he drew a bases loaded walk increasing the Rams' lead to three (4-1). Harris singled through the left side driving in Barrera and pushing his hitting streak to 11 games, which tied his season-high. With two outs, rightfielder
Tate Allison roped a bases-clearing triple down the rightfield line to blow the game open and put the Rams up 8-1.
Schuehler (1-4) took the mound in the bottom of the ninth and ended the game with a strikeout. He pitched his first complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits in 9.0 innings of work to collect his first win of the season. The Plano, native walked three and struck out six while hurling 150 pitches.
Pajak (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after surrendering six runs, three of which were earned, on 10 hits in 8.1 innings pitched. He walked three and fanned two.
