SAN ANGELO
– A total of 17 Angelo State track and field student-athletes earned 21 total All-South Central Region Honors as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its first ever regional honorees for outdoor track & field in NCAA Division II Tuesday afternoon. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2011 outdoor season.

A total of 1,250 athletes receive 1,838 all-region nods in the inaugural outdoor class, including Angelo State's Andrew Allison (pole vault), Isidro Garcia (400-meter dash and 4x400 relay), Wade Goode (discus), Brian Holik (400-meter hurdles and 4x400 relay), Terence Holland (4x400 relay), Jeffrey Jones (4x400 relay), Jacob McDonald (pole vault and javelin), Tyler Orlando (pole vault and javelin), Trevor Rogers (long jump), Austin Slone (triple jump) and Robbie Thayer (4x400 relay) on the men's side. Six Rambelles were also honored, including Bree Bennett (100-meter hurdles), Emeline Crutcher (5,000-meter run), Cathryn Rittenberry (100-meter hurdles), Summer Sutherland (pole vault), Tiffany Wilcox (100-meter dash) and Kelsey Wilson (pole vault).

“We had quite a few guys and a good group of girls on the list as well,” Angelo State head coach James Reid said. “I tell the kids that anytime we get Angelo State's name out there, it's a good thing. I'm proud of the way they represented us this year, not only at the conference level, but at the regional level as well.”

On the men's side, five individuals earned all-region honors in five events, including Carter Griffin (Cal Poly Pomona), Leford Green (Johnson C. Smith), Chris Burrows (Lake Erie), Maurice Eubanks (UNC Pembroke), and Karlos Jordan (UNC Pembroke). New Mexico Highlands' Jillisa Grant notched seven all-region honors to lead the women's list. New Haven's Shannon Gagne took six acclaims.

In the team count, same as the indoor season, Southern Connecticut led all men's teams, grabbing 40 honors this outdoor season. They were followed by Adams State (31), UNC Pembroke (23), UMass Lowell (22), and Saint Augustine's (21) and Abilene Christian (21). Grand Valley State notched the most among women's squads with 39 all-region plaudits, followed by Southern Connecticut (34), Lincoln (Mo.) (27), Albany State (Ga.) (24), and UMass Lowell (22).

The list of qualifiers for the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championship at Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif., May 26-28, was also expected to be announced Tuesday.
