Rutledge in Contention at UCO's RCB Bank Classic in Oklahoma City

Courtney Rutledge
OKLAHOMA CITY – Angelo State junior Courtney Rutledge finds herself within striking distance of the leaders at the RCB Bank Classic after shooting 2-over in the first round at the par-71 Lincoln Park Golf Course.

Rutledge, who is in a group of eight which is tied for seventh, is only three shots behind Arkansas Tech's Rebecka Surtevall who leads the tournament at 1-under.  The 36-hole tournament is being hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma and resumes at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

“I think I scrambled pretty well,” Rutledge said. “I missed a lot of greens but I was still able to get up and down and make some one-putts. I thought we played really solid as a team today and we'll see how it turns out tomorrow.”

The Rambelles shot a team total of 308 in the first round and are tied with Cameron and Northeastern State in 10th position. Krista Czarnecki and Abby Bobo each shot 78s to start the tournament.

“Today's round went well,” Czarnecki said. “I was hitting the ball fantastic and kept a great tempo all day. If a couple of birdie putts would have fallen it would have been a great round. I'm excited for my teammates and excited to get back out on the course tomorrow.”

Elizabeth Chavarria carded a 79 (+8) in her first round representing ASU, while Jordan Jernigan rounded out the Rambelles field with an 84 which puts her in a tie for 81st.

“We kind of got off to a rocky start but we put it together and had a good finish,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said.

Dallas Baptist and St. Edward's lead the tournament at 296 with Newman in third with a 297.
