Game at San Antonio, Texas | Sullivan Field | Teams split series 1-1

SAN ANTONIO – No. 18 Angelo State split a Tuesday night doubleheader with a 2-0 win and 4-3 loss against Texas A&M International at Sullivan Field to improve to 14-3 on the season, but also end an eight-game winning streak.

“The big thing for us so far this season has been our consistency with our defense and pitching,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “We did another great job of that in the first game but made some mistakes in the second one that came back and bit us. We continue to give ourselves a chance to win every game and that's something we can be proud of so far this season.”

Michael Lange (2-0) was efficient and dominant in the first game, claiming the win after pitching 5.2 innings against the Dustdevils (9-6) where he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The junior right-hander threw 51 strikes out of 70 overall pitches and struck out four while walking only one.

“He really did a great job of coming out and taking advantage of his opportunity,” Brooks said. “It was exciting to see him attacking the hitters and keeping the ball down. He did a great job for us.”

Ryan Greer extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate in the first game, while Doug Snover hit a home run for the second straight game and Quaid McKinnon delivered an RBI in the third inning. Greer's hitting streak would be snapped at eight in the second game.  Matt Rechkemmer also had a hit for the Rams who outhit the Dustdevils 4-1 in the opening game.

The Rams dropped their first game in 17 days in the nightcap after allowing three runs to come home in the third inning and hitting a batter with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Jake Feckley (0-1) claims the loss after coming in for relief of starter Travis Stavinoha who went 2.2 innings in his second start of the season.

Toby Semler went 2-for-3 , including his first home run of the season, while Tate Allison delivered a two-run home run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3 after the Rams had trailed 3-0. Zach Cohen and McKinnon also added hits for the Rams in the loss. Allison now leads the Rams with three home runs on the season.

Angelo State returns to action with a 6:30 p.m. game on Friday against Central Oklahoma to start a three-game series against its former Lone Star Conference foes. The two team will conclude the series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
