ALLEN, Texas – Paige Weishuhn and
Haylee Oliver of Angelo State were honored by the Lone Star Conference on Tuesday night earning second team all-conference and Co-Freshman of the Year, respectively. The awards were announced at the pre-championship banquet at the Allen Event Center.
Weishuhn was recognized to the All-LSC second team for the first time in her career and earn All-LSC accolades for the third time overall. The senior is the Belles leading scorer on the year, averaging 12.7 points per contest and is pulling down 5.9 boards per game. The Wall native became only the second player in school history to score over 1,000 points and have over 100 blocks.
Oliver shared the league's Freshman of the Year award with Midwestern State's Dianna Jones, but the San Saba native certainly stood out on her own this season. The freshman forward is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per contest and has dished out 48 assists on the season along with grabbing nearly five boards per game. Oliver's scoring average is the highest for a Belle' freshman since
Camille Perkins pumped in 15.8 in 2008.
The duo was recently named the league's Players of the Week on Monday, with Weishuhn garnering offensive honors and Oliver on the defensive end.
The Angelo State women's basketball team returns to the court on Thursday in the LSC Championships as the No. 5 seed Belles take on No. 4 seed Cameron at 6 p.m. The Aggies Sabelle Diata was named the conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year Tuesday night.
