SAN ANGELO, Texas – Two-time NFL All-Pro selection, two-time All-American and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Pierce Holt, has been hired as special assistant to the athletic director and an assistant football coach.

“Nobody has represented Angelo State more than Pierce Holt through the years,” Angelo State Athletic Director Kathleen Brasfield said. To have him work with former athletes and supporters and special projects and to also coach our football players is a very big opportunity for us. We are excited for him and for us and think it is a win-win situation.”

Holt will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the football staff. He played for eight seasons in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons. Holt won two Super Bowl Championships with the San Francisco 49ers and was named twice to the All-Pro team during his career.

While at Angelo State, Holt garnered two All-American honors and was twice named Lone Star Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year awards. He is a member of the LSC Hall of Fame, NCAA Division II Football Hall of Fame, College Football Hall of Fame and Angelo State Hall of Honor.

“We are excited to have Pierce join us,” head coach Will Wagner said. “He brings a lot of experience playing at the collegiate level and at the highest level in the NFL What he has learned and his years of experience and to be able to come back and teach that to our athletes is going to benefit us greatly. Just to have his name associated with the football program will bring recognition and prestige.”
