STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Angelo State softball team went 7-0 last week and climbed five spots in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 Poll released on Wednesday. The Rambelles are currently ranked third after beginning the season 19-3.
“Our team is playing really well right now,” Angelo State head coach
Travis Scott said. “We're swinging the bat really well, and our starting pitching continues to get better and better as the season progresses.”
As a team, the Belles are hitting .352 and have outscored their opponents by 100 runs so far this season (180-80). ASU is slugging .580 thanks to 33 home runs and 40 doubles.
Elsamartina Apo (.482),
April Breshears (.458),
Kacie Easley (.436) and
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti (.406) are all hitting above .400, while Tafiti leads the nation in home runs hit at 10.
In the circle,
Mary Kate McKay and
Claire Molina have combined for 10 complete games this season. McKay – a crafty lefty from Madill, Okla. – has a 2.04 earned run average and is 9-1 on the season. Meanwhile, Molina boasts a 10-2 record with a 3.61 ERA.
Up next for Angelo State is a Lone Star Conference showdown against Eastern New Mexico. The two teams will meet in Portales, N.M., on March 9, for a doubleheader with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
