Rams & Rambelles Shine in Front of Home Crowd

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State track and field teams shined in front of its home crowd as the Rambelles won the David Noble/Angelo State Relays with 165.50 points while the Rams took a strong second with 137.75 at the LeGrand Sports Complex on Thursday.

Theresa Sue, named LSC Field Athlete of the Week earlier today, punched her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a big mark in the long jump. The junior won the women's long jump with a personal-best jump of 20'-3.50” (6.18m) which is a NCAA Division II automatic mark. The jump is currently the best in NCAA Division II.

The Rambelles, ranked No. 25 this week in the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, picked up a total of seven provisional marks on the day.

The women's 4x400-meter relay of Keshawna Fisher, Sue, Lexi Brooks and Jaylen Rodgers recorded its first NCAA Division II provisional mark with its time of 3:49.05. It was the second-fastest time of the night in the women's 4x400-meter relay. The time puts them at No. 8 in NCAA Division II currently.

A total of 30 Rambelles scored on the day including wins by freshman Rodgers in the 800-meters with a new personal best of 2:14.42.

Kelsey Coffman, Summer Sutherland, Cathryn Rittenberry and Kimberly Williams also hit NCAA Division II provisional marks but have previous bests.

The Rams racked up nine NCAA Division II provisional marks on the day. Patrick Hunter, Jeffery Jones, Brendon West and the 4x100-meter relay all added new NCAA Division II provisional marks. Isidro Garcia and Austin Slone improved on previous provisional marks at the meet.

Garcia was able to win the 400-meter with a 47.15 which ranks him at No. 4 in the NCAA. It is his third NCAA Division II mark in the quarter this season. His second provisional time came in the preliminaries at 47.88.

West added his name to both the 200-meter and 400-meter list. His fastest time of the day in the 400-meters came in the preliminaries with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 47.88. He ended up third in the overall 400-meter with a 47.56. The transfer also hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the 200-meter with a 21.41.

Jones hit a personal-best time and moves to No. 7 in NCAA Division II with his time of 52.79 in the 400-meter hurdles. He had the seventh fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries before turning it on in the final for a second place finish.

The 4x100-meter relay was able to meet the NCAA Division II provisional standard for the first time this season. Dallas Gray, Robbie Thayer, Nick Smith and Kennan Henry ran a 40.35 to finish in third behind Texas A&M-Kingsville and Western Texas College.

Patrick Hunter made a big leap in the standings of the men's long jump. His winning jump of 24'-00.25” (7.32m) was a NCAA Division II provisional mark and moves him to No. 7 in the nation.

Slone improved on his mark in the long jump. The junior was the top collegian with a mark of 49'-1.50” (14.97m) and moves to fifth place on the NCAA Division II descending order list.

Jacob McDonald hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark but has a season best of 215'-8” (65.73m).

The Rams picked up big points in the team race from Jamin Goecker in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he won with a 10:12.34.

The men's 4x400-meter relay didn't disappoint in the final race of the evening. The relay of West, Gray, Thayer and Garcia powered past South Plains with a 3:09.37 to win the event.

South Plains won the team race with a score of 154 compared to Angelo State's 137.75.
