SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State junior
Lee Neumann has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association's South Central's Player of the Year along with earning an ABCA South Central Region Rawlings Gold Glove.
In addition, junior left fielder
Ryan Greer and pitcher
Michael Lange were named to the region's first team and senior third baseman
Toby Semler earned second team honors.
Neumann, a center fielder from Brenham, finished the season with a .389 batting average, leading the Rams with 81hits that included 19 doubles, nine triples and seven home runs. He also drove in 45 runs, scored 60 runs and stole 17 bases in his first season at ASU.
Neumann started all 57 games for the Rams this season and recorded 114 putouts. He committed only one error and had three assists to finish with a .992 fielding percentage. His triple total set the program's single season record. He was named the Lone Star Conference's Co-Player of the Year and also earned first-team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Greer finished the season leading Angelo State with 58 RBI and 29 stolen bases. He started all 57 games, finishing with a .366 batting average with nine doubles, five triples, six home runs and 50 singles. His RBI total ranks 11th all-time in program history for a single season, while his stolen base total ranks fourth. He has also been named to the LSC's first team and was a second-team selection by the NCBWA.
Lange finished the season with a 9-1 record and a 3.62 earned run average. The junior from Columbus, Neb., struck out 47 and walked only 12 in his first season at Angelo State. The right hander was also named a LSC first-team starter this season.
Semler completed his final year at ASU with 77 hits, including 18 doubles, three home runs and two doubles. Semler also had 39 RBI and scored 39 runs for the Rams. He was also named to the LSC's first team this season.
The three Rams join John Beal, Ronnie Gaines, J.W. Nastoupil and Nate Hemm (2006), Steven Allred, Clay Calfee, Drew Caraway and Matt Lenderman (2007), Clay Calfee and Shan Sullivan (2008), Chris Adamson, Keith Towne and Kenny Elkind (2009) and Chris Adamson and Isaac Garica (2010) as players honored on the ABCA All-Region team.
