Lee Neumann

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Lee Neumann has been named to the 2012 NCAA Division II Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-American second team.

Neumann, a center fielder from Brenham, finished the season with a .389 batting average, leading the Rams with 81hits that included 19 doubles, nine triples and seven home runs. He also drove in 45 runs, scored 60 runs and stole 17 bases in his first season at ASU after transfering from Blinn College.

Neumann started all 57 games for the Rams this season and recorded 114 putouts. He committed only one error and had three assists to finish with a .992 fielding percentage. His triple total set the program's single season record. He was also named Rawlings/ABCA South Central Position Player of the Year, won a South Central Gold Glove, recognized as the Lone Star Conference's Co-Player of the Year and also earned first-team South Central honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's Cameron Dullnig, who shared the LSC Player of the Year with Neumann, was named to the third team as a pitcher. Neumann and Dullnig were the only two LSC players to be named All-Americans.

Lee Neumann Quotes
On his approach at the plate this season at Angelo State:
“I figured out that you don't have to try to kill the ball or hit a home run every time. I can just put a good swing on a ball and it will go.”

On being named a Rawlings/ABCA All-American:
“It's an amazing feeling to know that I'm considered one of the best Division II players in the nation. It's an honor to how hard I've worked and the way the team came together this year. I'm really proud of what was accomplished this season.”

On his development from Blinn College to Angelo State:
“I came along way mentally this year from where I was in the past at the plate. I used to get down on myself when I experienced failure, but this year I was able to move past it and have good at-bats after not getting a hit earlier in the game. That played out big for me this year.”

On the Angelo State coaching staff helping in his development:
“Coach Anderson and Brooks did a great job of keeping me mentally in the game at all times. They did a great job of letting me know what to expect from our opponents and what I should be expecting from myself.”
