Rams Sign Former San Angelo Central Pitcher Bryce Zak

LSC championship

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Bryce Zak is coming back home to pitch for the Lone Star Conference champion Angelo State baseball team.

Bryce Zak
Zak, who is a 2010 graduate of San Angelo Central, has signed to play for the Rams after spending the last two seasons as a member of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team. Zak will enter ASU with three years of eligibility remaining after spending his first season as a redshirt for the Islanders.

“We are really excited to get Bryce back to San Angelo and feel that he is a pitcher who can make an immediate impact for our team,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “We recruited him out of high school and think he has a lot of talent and is a really hard worker.”

The 6-3 right-handed pitcher appeared in eight games last season for the Islanders, finishing with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. He also pitched last summer in the New York Collegiate League for the Hornell Dodgers, earning a 3-1 record with a 3.33 ERA in 10 starts. He struck out 54 in 51.1 innings of work.

Zak, who was a three-year letterman and a District 2-5A first team performer while at Central, is currently pitching for the Victoria Generals who play in the Texas Collegiate League. He will join an ASU team which went 40-17 last season, including winning the LSC regular season and tournament titles. The Rams' pitching staff had a 3.87 ERA and held opponents to a .270 batting average.

Zak is the first pitcher who has signed with ASU and the fourth overall player for the 2013 signing class.
