SAN ANGELO – Five members of the Angelo State golf team have been named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Association.
Seniors
Maury McCormick and
Krista Czarnecki earned the honor along with junior
Courtney Rutledge and sophomores
Abby Bobo and
Ashley Bartholomew. The criterion for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in the all of college athletics with a minimum GPA of 3.50.
Czarnecki, an El Paso native, finished her career at ASU as a medalist with a fifth-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Golf Championship. She played in 10 tournaments as a senior and had an 81.4 stroke average. Also an Angelo State Distinguished Graduate from the College of Business and a Capital One Academic All-District selection, Czarnecki competed in 40 tournaments in her career with 15 top-20 showings.
McCormick, who played high school golf at Wall, played in 38 tournaments in her career for the Rambelles and had five top-10 performances. She competed in eight tournaments this season with her top showing coming with a 15th place finish at the St. Edward's Invitational.
Rutledge led the Rambelles this season with a 79.2 stroke average in 10 tournaments. A LSC All-Academic selection, she had three top-10 finishes and finished in the top 20 in six tournaments. The Monahans native had her best tournament in Arkansas after taking seventh at the UAFS Lions Classic. She comes into her senior season having played in 29 tournaments and with five top-10 finishes in her career.
Bobo, a Wichita Falls native, finished her sophomore season with a 79.5 stroke average in 10 tournaments played. She had two top-5 finishes and finished in the top 20 of four tournaments. Bobo took third at Tarleton State's Doc Housewright Invitational and fifth at the ASU Concho River Classic.
Bartholomew competed in nine tournaments as a sophomore for the Rambelles and finished the year strong with a 17th place showing at the conference tournament. The Mansfield native had her best round of the season at the Doc Housewright Invitational by shooting a 73 in the final round of the tournament and comes into her junior season having played 16 tournaments in her career. Â
The LSC is also represented on the WGCA All-Scholar Team by Tarleton State's Sarah Fulfer and Sharon Lau along with West Texas A&M's Judith Papenfus, Glory Jangthongsiri and Vanessa Spradlin.
