ASU Adds 19 for Fall of 2014

SAN ANGELO – Angelo State head football coach Will Wagner announced the signing of 19 student-athletes for the fall of 2014.
 
"The 2014 class exceeded our expectations," Wagner said. "We were able to hit on every need this season with speed and athleticism being a major emphasis.  I'm excited about the potential of these recruits and I look forward to coaching them into championship players."
 
The offense added nine players to add to a talented group. Three offensive linemen were signed to recoup the loss of three senior starters. Two wide receivers, two tight ends, two quarterbacks and a running back also inked a national letter of intent.
 
The defense signed 10 players for 2014. The defensive backfield added five with four coming up front for the defensive line and one linebacker.
 
The class has one transfer and 18 high school signees.

"Raymond joined us at semester and has made an immediate impact in the weight room.  He has the best first step of all the DT's we evaluated this season.  The addition of Raymond up front will help solidify our defensive line."

GRANT ASCHENBECK

"Grant is a great athlete that can play multiple spots for us. We're excited about his development as a safety here at ASU."

  • 105 total tackles with five interceptions and three touchdowns as a senior.
  • Threw for 782 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.
  • District 13-2A Most Valuable Player two-straight years
  • Second team all-state as a defensive back


JACOBY GAYLOR

"Jacoby is a physical corner that doesn't shy away from contact.  He has the ability to take away one side of the field. "

  • Honorable mention all-district as a senior
  • Made 27 tackles, three interceptions and forced one fumble


DEVLIN ISADORE
QB 6-3, 200, Aldine Eisenhower | Houston, Texas
Will Wagner's thoughts:
"Devlin is an athletic QB that brings in tremendous leadership skills.  He is a student of the game both on and off the field.  We are excited to see where his potential will take him over the next several years as a Ram."

  • 1,352 passing yards, 11 touchdowns as a senior
  • Second team all-district
  • Over 3,000 passing yards and 25 touchdowns in his career

JORDAN MOLDEN
DT, 6-3, 255, Cypress Ridge | Houston, Texas

"Jordan does an exceptional job playing off blocks but his greatest asset is his relentless pursuit of the ball."

AUSTIN SMITH
OL, 6-2, 250, North Shore | Houston, Texas

"Austin is a very athletic and physical player that comes from a great program in Houston. His ability to play all five positions up front will be a great addition to our offensive line."

CHRISTIAN TAYLOR

DONOVAN THOMPSON
WR, 6-0, 185 Westfield High | Houston, Texas

Will Wagner's thoughts:
"Donovan is one of the most elusive WR's we've seen on film this year.  He has great speed and soft hands. Donovan should be able to make an immediate impact to the wide receiver corps."

  • Recorded 28 receptions for 518 yards and eight touchdowns in his high school career


KELTON VERSEY 
QB, 6-1, 185, Lake Worth High | Lake Worth, Texas

"Kelton is a very athletic quarterback that has the ability to see action early at several positions. His leadership and talent will continue to help us have great depth at the QB position for the next several years."

JOHNATHAN JACKSON

"Johnathan is a physical, downhill runner with the ability to break away from defenders in the open field. He not only is a great running back, but he possesses soft hands in the pass game. Johnathan will be an impact player in the LSC for the next several years."

  • 170 carries, 928 yards, 5.46 average with 12 touchdowns

TRAVIER JACKSON
WR, 6-2, 195, Red Oak | Red Oak, Texas

"Travier is an exciting wide receiver with big play ability. His speed and elusiveness will give us the chance to stretch the field on the edge and the potential to make big plays on every down ."

DEKWAN DUKES
MLB, 6-1, 235, Westfield High | Houston, Texas

" Dekwan will be a great addition to the defense with his speed and relentless pursuit of the ball.  He makes great reads and can cover sideline to sideline."

  • Member of the 13-5A undefeated district champs
  • Member of team that advanced to the state quarterfinals

JOSH JACKS
TE 6-5, 220, Round Rock Christian Academy | Round Rock, Texas

"Josh is an athlete in a tight end's body.  We are very excited to see him develop as a Ram football player."

  • As a senior, scored 15 touchdown on 35 receptions for 593 yards

MARKUS JONES

"Markus is a very athletic DE that can cover a lot of ground. He has the potential to be a great player in the LSC."

  • 90 total tackles (76 solo and 14 assisted) and seven sacks as a senior
  • 57 total tackles (51 solo, 6 assisted) and five sacks as a junior
  • Named defensive MVP of district 8-4A as a senior

EZEQUIEL RODRIGUEZ

"Ezequiel does a tremendous job getting off the ball and playing with his hands.  He has the potential to develop into a great defensive tackle for us."

DERRIN WYTASKE
