SAN ANGELO – The No. 8/7-ranked Angelo State Rams will complete the first half of Lone Star Conference play when they travel to compete against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center – Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
The Rams (18-1, 6-0 LSC) are riding a program-record 13-game winning streak and are leading the nation with a 54.6 field-goal percentage and a 28.1 scoring margin advantage. ASU, which is coming off a 79-63 win over No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday and is off to the best start in program history, has not lost since Nov. 28 in a road game against Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Rams have won 17 of their 18 games by double-digits with the only non-double-digit win coming by nine points in an overtime victory over Arkansas Tech. Cinco Boone who have led the program to a 37-10 record in their two seasons in San Angelo. The Rams enter Saturday's game third in the nation by limiting opponents to a 37.8 field-goal percentage and are fourth in total assists and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.62), fifth in scoring offense (91.0 per game), sixth in defensive rebounds per game (29.32) and eighth with a plus-5.4 turnover margin.
ASU remains the only team still undefeated in LSC play this season and is outscoring conference opponents by 21.3 points per game. The Rams are 5-1 away from San Angelo this season, including road-wins over Midwestern State and West Texas A&M in conference action. The Rams and Javelinas split their regular-season series last year with TAMUK earning a 79-69 win at the Junell Center before ASU took a 53-41 win in Kingsville in the second meeting of the 2013-14 season.
The Javelinas (6-12, 1-5 LSC) have dropped five of their last six games, including falling 75-71 last Saturday against Midwestern State in their last game. Kingsville earned a 75-67 win over Eastern New Mexico in its only LSC win of the season.
Angelo State will start the second half of its LSC schedule at 8 p.m. on Wednesday against West Texas A&M at the Junell Center. The game is a "White Out" with 500 free shirts to be given out at the game which is sponsored by 1st Community Federal Credit Union.

ANGELO STATE RAM ROSTER REPORTThe LSC leader in assists and steals,
Chris Jones reached a season milestone by recording his 100th assist of the season on Wednesday after having five assists in the win over A&M-Commerce. Jones, who is averaging 15.0 points per conference game, also has 55 steals now after a three-steal performance against the Lions and he is currently fourth in the ASU program's single-season record book. His 55 steals are only behind Justin Hardin (59 steals, 2000-01), Darwin Carter (62 steals, 2000-01) and James Gray (81 steals, 2000-01). Jones is averaging 14.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game for the Rams in his senior season. A transfer from North Texas, Jones led the Rams with 18 points last Saturday in the win over Cameron and has scored in double-figures in 16 of 18 games this season. Jones, who is 17th in the nation with a 61.7 field-goal percentage, scored a season-best with 23 points against Western State and UTPB and recorded his first double-double with the Rams against York College when he had 16 points and 12 assists. Jones has had four or more assists in 15 games this season, including the 12 against York College and eight against McMurry. He had a season-high seven steals against York College, needing only three more to notch a triple-double performance. The seven steals tied the ASU single-game record which he shares with Nate Gordon (2003) and Denell Stephens (2007). Jones is a three-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week recipient and has earned on LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor in his first season at ASU.
Demario Mayfield is coming off his team-leading eighth double-double of the season after scoring 16 points and securing 11 rebounds in the win over A&M-Commerce. Mayfield is averaging 16.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season. He is averaging 17.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in LSC play. Named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performances last week against Midwestern State and Cameron, Mayfield has leads ASU with 114 defensive rebounds and is second on the team in assists (77) and steals (34). He is currently third in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding. A senior from Royston, Georgia, Mayfield has scored in double digits in 17 of 19 games this season, including a season-best 23 points against Colorado Mesa, Western State Colorado and Texas-Permian Basin. He had his seventh double-double of the season last Wednesday when he had 20 points and 11 rebounds in the road win against MSU. Mayfield is one of only seven players in the nation to have recorded a triple-double this season.
Marsell Holden is second in the conference with 56 3-pointers this season and is averaging 14.3 points per game. A senior from Farrell, Pennsylvania, Holden is 56 of 130 (43.1 percent) on 3-pointers this season and has made 33 of 40 (82.5 percent) shots from the free-throw line. He is coming off a 14-point performance against the Lions when he hit three 3-pointers. Holden has the single-game high for the Rams after scoring 26 points against Eastern New Mexico after he hit five 3-pointers against the Greyhounds. He also recorded a career-best with seven 3-pointers against Arkansas-Monticello in a performance which earned him the LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor. He has hit three or more 3-pointers in 12 games this season and five or more in four games.
Raijon Kelly is 11th in the nation with a 3.17 assist-to-turnover ratio and is averaging 11.1 points, 3.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Rams this season. Kelly, who is a senior from St. Paul, Minnesota, is shooting 60.6 percent from the field this season and has 68 assists for the Rams. Kelly is averaging 12.2 points per game through the first six LSC contests this season. He is currently eighth in the conference in assists and has scored in double digits in 12 games this season. Kelly, who scored nine points on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Commerce, scored a season-best 22 points in a win over ENMU when he went 7-for-7 from the field and then scored 14 points last Wednesday at Midwestern State. Kelly leads the Rams by making 26 of 29 free throws (89.7 percent) and recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists in the overtime win over Arkansas Tech. Kelly, who played his first three seasons at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, has recorded four or more assists in eight games this season.
Angelo State continues to get strong contributions from the junior class which is bolstered by
Omari Gudul,
Brentine Taylor,
Bilal Richardson,
Thomas Brandsma and
DeQuavious Wagner. Gudul is coming off a pair of 12-point against A&M-Commerce and Cameron and is averaging 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. In his second season at ASU after transferring from Ranger College, Gudul is adding 14 blocked shots and has 96 total rebounds this season. Richardson, who has started the past seven games, is averaging 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Richardson is coming off a career-high where he had three blocked shots against he Lions and also scored eight points and had five rebounds in the win. An Atlanta, Georgia native, Richardson had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Arkansas-Monticello and scored a season-high 15 points against York College. Taylor is averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game and scored a season-high with 13 points at McMurry. Taylor scored seven points on Wednesday against Commerce in 12 minutes of play. He has made three starts this season and has played a valuable role as a reserve along with Wagner (3.9 ppg., 1.7 apg.) and Brandsma (2.6 ppg., 2.9 rpg.).
Tommy Woolridge, a senior from Chicago, is averaging 4.8 points per game and has made 16 3-pointers this season. ASU's leader with 37 3-pointers last season, Woolridge has made 53 shots from beyond the arc in his career. He is shooting 41.0 percent from beyond the arc this season and has scored in double-digits against West Texas A&M (14 points) and ENMU (10 points) in conference play.
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE JAVELINA REPORTThe Javelinas (6-12, 1-5 LSC) have dropped three in a row and five of their last six coming into Saturday's game against the Rams. Kingsville is led by first-year head coach Johnny Estelle who played for the Javelinas and coached at Houston as an assistant last season. The Javelinas did not play a midweek game and are coming off a 75-71 loss to Midwestern State last Saturday in Kingsville. TAMUK is 3-5 on its home court this season and is averaging 71.7 points per game and is shooting 42.7 percent from the field. Opponents are averaging 75.1 points per game and are shooting 46.6 percent. The Javelinas are last in the conference in scoring offense and seventh in field-goal percentage.
Troy Jones leads the Javelinas this season with 13.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. A junior from Alexandria, Louisiana, Jones is shooting 64.7 percent from the field. Jones was high school teammates with ASU's
DeQuavious Wagner at Peabody Magnet School in Alexandria along with Duan Wright who is averaging 7.5 points per game for the Javelinas. Jones, who is a 6-foot-7 forward, has 14 double-digit scoring games this season and is coming off scoring eight points against the Mustangs. He is the only Javelina averaging in double-figures this season. Wright, Jones and Wagner won the state championship game in their senior season. Wagner was named Mr. Basketball of Louisiana after Peabody won the title game.
DJ Weathers and Jordan Jahr are second on the team with 9.9 points per game, while Jamar Goodwin is averaging 9.8 points per game. Don Thomas, a senior who started his career at Texas A&M, leads TAMUK with 40 assists and is averaging 7.3 points per game. Thomas leads the Javelinas with 22 3-pointers this season while Weather has hit 20 shots from beyond the arc.
The Javelinas will return to action on Wednesday by hosting Eastern New Mexico in Kingsville after playing the Rams on Saturday. ASU and TAMUK will meet for the second time this season in the final regular-season game on Feb. 28 which will be senior day for Kelly, Jones, Mayfield, Holden and Woolridge at the Junell Center.
