CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – The Angelo State men's and women's track & field team earned three All-American honors including a program first in the women's pole vault on Thursday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Rambelles are scored nine points and are in fourth place with the 10,000-meters to go. The Rams picked their first All-American of the meet in the 400-meter hurdles. .
Heather Shaffer made history in her first national championships. The junior became the first female All-American in the pole vault. Shaffer cleared 12'-7.50" (3.85-meters) to finish in fifth. She was the top LSC pole vault competitor at the meet and scored four points for the team.
Kami Norton added a long jump All-American award to her career. The senior used a personal best jump of 20'-3.75" (6.19-meters) to place fourth overall. The first team All-American recorded her lifetime best on her fifth attempt of the competition.
Ben Thiel ran a season best of 51.71 to place ninth and earn second team All-American honors. He was one spot out of making the final of the men's 400-meter hurdles. He will run a leg on the 4x400-meter relay tomorrow evening.
Norton is tied for first in the women's heptathlon with a score of 3,121 points. She scored the most points in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.27 and 941 points. Jordan Nash scored 2,762 points and is in 14th. She clocked a 14.69 for 883 points for her best event of the day.
Harry Maslen sits in fifth after the first five days of the decathlon. He scored 3,786 points with the long jump being his best event scoring 840 points with a jump of 23'-4" (7.11-meters). Dragan Pesic is in 11th  with 3,576 points. He scored at least 705 points in four of his five events with his best score being 762 with a time of 51.15 in the 400-meters.
Norton competed in the 400-meter hurdles, her sixth event of the first day. The senior ran 1:01.21 to place 15th overall.
