Brooks Named Region Coach Of The Year

Angelo State head baseball coach Kevin Brooks has been named by the American Baseball Coaches Association as the ABCA/Diamond NCAA DII South Central Region Coach of the Year.  The announcement was made by the ABCA on Thursday morning.

Brooks guided the Rams to a 51-20 record in 2007 and a No. 6-ranking in the final NCAA DII national poll. Along the way Brooks' squad captured the Lone Star Conference Championship, the NCAA DII South Central Regional Championship and the school's first appearance at the NCAA DII World Series in the just the third year of the program.  In 40 years of NCAA Division II Baseball, no team had advanced to the World Series in quicker fashion.

In his three years at ASU, Brooks has compiled a 122-61 (.667) won-loss record, 42-18 (.700) in LSC South Division play, and captured the LSC South Division title in 2006, adding the LSC Conference and NCAA DII South Central Regional titles in 2007.

Brooks will be recognized at the Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet at the ABCA National Convention in Philadelphia on Friday, January 4, 2008.
