'Belles Open Crossover Play

'Belles Open Crossover Play...The Angelo State women's basketball team (3-4) will kick off Lone Star Conference crossover play this weekend with two home games against Oklahoma foes. The 'Belles will face Southeastern Oklahoma Thursday at 6 p.m. and then host East Central Saturday at 2 p.m.

ASU Riding Hot Streak...After opening up the season 0-4, the 'Belles have strung together three straight wins and will look to even up their record Thursday night against Southeastern Oklahoma. The 0-4 was the first for the 'Belles since the 1998-99 season, two years prior to the arrival of current head coach Sally Walling Brooks.

Perkins Sparks 'Belles...Angelo State got a season-high 26 points from sophomore guard Camille Perkins on Saturday in the 'Belles 77-65 win at St. Edward's. This 12-point win served as vengeance for the 'Belles as they dropped their home opener to SEU, 67-58, on Nov. 18.

Parks Leads ASU...Through seven games, senior center Ann Parks leads the 'Belles in both scoring and rebounding. The Fort Worth native is averaging 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 63.8 percent from the field. Parks ranks fourth in the LSC in field goal percentage, seventh in rebounding and 20th in scoring.

'Belles Nearing 500 Wins...The ASU women's basketball program is approaching a major milestone. The 'Belles enter this week with 495 all-time wins, needing just five victories for 500. Angelo State is 495-449 all-time for a .524 winning percentage. Sally Walling Brooks will be the first ASU women's basketball coach to coach two century victories. Brooks guided the 'Belles to their 400th victory with an 86-76 win over Cameron in the first round of the 2004 LSC Tournament.

Brooks Starts Ninth Year...The longest tenured women's basketball coach in school history, Sally Walling Brooks is in her ninth year at the helm of the 'Belles. She boasts a record of 182-68 in her eight-plus seasons with ASU and has led the 'Belles to seven straight NCAA Division II Regional Tournaments. She is a two-time LSC Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2001 and 2005, and has led ASU to three conference championships (2002, 2004, 2005). Prior to her arrival at ASU, she served as the head coach at Incarnate Word, collecting a record of 155-106 in nine seasons with the Cardinals. As a collegiate coach, Brooks maintains a 337-174 (65.9%) career mark.

Against Southeastern Oklahoma...The 'Belles are 9-2 all-time against SOSU including an 82-77 overtime victory in Durant, Okla., last season. ASU is currently riding an eight-game winning streak against the Savage Storm. The last SOSU win the series came during the 2001-02 regular season, a 78-70 victory in Durant. The Savage Storm have never defeated the 'Belles in San Angelo, going 0-6 in road games in the series.

Scouting the Savage Storm...SOSU enters Thursday's game with a 4-2 record and glowing after a 106-29 win over Hillsdale Baptist this past Saturday. The Savage Storm are led by three players who are averaging double-digit scoring. Junior forward Destiny Brown and sophomore guard Jasmine Hughey are both averaging 12.5 points per game while freshman forward Elizabeth Dean has come off the bench in all six games for SOSU for 10.2 points per outing. Brown leads the Savage Storm in rebounding with 8.2 boards per game, ranking fifth in the LSC, while senior guard Ashley Tucker dishes out a team-high four assists per game. SOSU is coached by Darin Grover, who is in his fourth season with the Savage Storm and has a 46-42 record with the program.

Against East Central...ASU holds a 7-3 all-time record against the Tigers. Last season, the two teams battled to double overtime where the 'Belles pulled out a 90-83 win in Ada, Okla. Angelo State has won the past six meetings with ECU, with the last Tiger victory coming in the 2001-02 season, 66-57, in Ada. The 'Belles have won seven of the last eight games with East Central.

Scouting the Tigers...East Central is 3-0 after claiming a pair of wins at a home classic over the weekend and a 59-53 victory over Southwestern Christian Tuesday night. Sophomore guard Laura Harris is averaging a team-high 14 points per game while junior forward Kacey Thomas adds 12 points as the only two Tigers in double figures. Thomas leads the Tigers with 6.7 rebounds per contest. ECU is coached by 18th-year head coach Kent Franz, who has a 250-221 all-time record with the Tigers.

What's Next...The 'Belles will continue LSC crossover play next week with two road games in Oklahoma. ASU will visit Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Okla., on Saturday, Dec. 13, and then travel to Cameron in Lawton, Okla., on Monday, Dec. 15. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.
