DENTON, Texas – Lauren Holt had a career-high 14 points and her second double-double of the season with 10 boards on Wednesday, but the Angelo State women's basketball team could not overcome a minus-12 rebounding deficit as it dropped a road contest to Texas Woman's, 53-47, in Kitty Magee Arena.

The Pioneers (10-7, 5-6 Lone Star Conference) outrebounded the Belles (10-8, 8-4 LSC) 40-28, including 15 on the offensive end that led to 13 second-chance points. ASU also shot the ball poorly in the first half, hitting only 21 percent from the field.

The cold shooting contributed to a 28-16 halftime disadvantage for the Belles as TWU looked more like the team that won the LSC Tournament last season than the one who lost in San Angelo, 67-48, on Nov. 30 earlier this season.

Angelo State trailed by double-figures through much of the second half until the Belles went on a 7-0 run beginning at the 11:09 mark with Holt scoring on five straight points and bringing ASU back within five, 35-30, with 8:47 left to play.

The Pioneers would push their lead back to eight after a three-pointer by TWU's Brittney Nuzum, but ASU battled back going on a 5-0 run that would bring the Belles within two, 44-42, with 1:38 remaining, but Nuzum responded with another three that would put the game out of reach.

Holt shot 6-of-8 from the field and tied the team-lead with two assists and two steals. It was the second-straight game in double-digits for the sophomore forward.

Paige Weishuhn joined Holt as double-figure scorers for the Belles, who shot only .367 from the field. ASU's bench, who came into the game as one of the LSC's top scoring units at 20 points per game, had only nine as they shot a combined 3-of-17 from the floor.

Nuzum had a career and game-high 22 points for TWU as she went 4-of-6 from downtown. Jessica Hanna had 10 points for the Pioneers.

The Belles will return to the court next week in San Angelo as they host Cameron on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in their second matchup with the Aggies. Angelo State lost a 56-50 contest to Cameron in Lawton on Dec. 7 earlier this season.
