Angelo State University will be the site of the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, marking the fifth time the university and the City of San Angelo have hosted the three-day event.
More than 600 student-athletes plus coaches, administrators, fans and media will converge upon San Angelo May 21-23 for the event at the LeGrand Sports Complex. ASU has previously hosted the event in 1988, 1991, 1992 and 2002.
ASU President Dr. Joseph C. Rallo said, “We are thrilled to host this prestigious event. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our campus and community to a national audience.”
ASU Athletics Director Kathleen Brasfield said, “We're very excited about the opportunity to host the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships again.
“This event will benefit not only our student-athletes but also the community of San Angelo,” she said. "The economic impact will be significant, while the chance to see outstanding performances in track and field will provide exciting entertainment options for the entire Concho Valley.”
The LeGrand Sports Complex combined with the amenities of the adjacent Junell Center/Stephens Arena provides one of the top athletic facilities in NCAA Division II. The complex features a 400-meter all-weather track with 200-meter straightaway, throwing areas, full press box facilities and seating for 3,000 spectators. The complex is also lighted for evening and night competition and boasts a fully automatic Finish Lynx timing system and scoreboard.
