Ashley Lynch belted her first home run of the season with two outs in the ninth inning to lift Nebraska-Omaha to a 4-2 win over St. Edward's in the losers' bracket of the 2009 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
Lynch was 0-for-2 going into the ninth inning and just a .221 hitter with just three extra base hits on the season. He two-out homer, scoring Emma Wright, boosted UNO after the Mavericks gave up two runs to St. Edward's in the top of the seventh to force the third extra-inning affair at the San Angelo tournament.
Nebraska-Omaha (44-16) scored a run each in the first and second to take a quick 2-0 lead. Jenna Dell started the scoring with a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the first, scoring Molly Feichtinger. UNO doubled its lead the next inning on a single by Feichtinger to score Katelyn Hinton.
St. Edward's (41-21) scored two runs in the seventh on a infield single by Lexi Stephens followed by a double by Megan Bailey. The Hilltoppers concluded their season.
The Mavericks will advance to another elimination game Saturday night as they face Emporia State at 8:30 p.m.
