Macy Baker hit a pair of home runs as the No. 4-ranked Angelo State softball team (46-8) downed Nebraska-Omaha, 6-4, Sunday in the title game of the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament in San Angelo. The Rambelles will now advance to and host the South Central Super Regional, May 15-16.
Baker, a native of Crowley, opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run shot to leftfield, scoring freshman
Sandy James, to give ASU a quick 2-0 lead. The Rambelles extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third on an RBI single up the middle by sophomore

UNO (45-17) plated a run in the bottom of the third on single by Lindsey Slocum, scoring Treighton Yates. However, the Rambelles took back a three-run cushion in the next inning as junior
Nicole Smith stole second and third and would score on a errant throw by Maverick catcher Kristi Meneely.
The Mavericks would then plate three runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the game, 4-4. Yates would draw a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring and Molly Feichtinger plated another run on an infield single and UNO would even the contest on a Rambelle throwing error on the play.
Angelo State would take the lead for good in the top of the fifth on Baker's second home run of the game, a solo shot with one out. The long ball was Baker's third of the weekend and 15th of the season. The Rambelles added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a bases-loaded two-out single to centerfield by junior

Chelsea Nelson (28-4) picked up the victory in relief of starter
April Haywood. Nelson tossed the final 3.1 innings and did not give up a run on three hits with a strikeout. Haywood gave up three earned runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Baker ended the game 3-for-3, adding a double in the third inning, with three RBI and two runs scored. She ended the weekend 14-of-16 from the plate with seven RBI and five runs scored. Pumphrey went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
For UNO, Slocum (15-4) was handed the loss after tossing the first six innings and giving up five earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Yates ended the game 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
ASU's opponent for next weekend has yet to be determined. The first game of next weekend's best-of-three series will take place 7 p.m. Friday. The two teams will return to the ASU Softball Complex 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the second contest with the "if necessary" game to follow.
