Angelo State Edges Lions, 57-56

Sophomore forward Lauren Weishuhn connected on pair of free throws with just under one minute left to play to propel the Angelo State women's basketball team (4-0) to a 57-56 win over Texas A&M-Commerce in Lone Star Conference crossover play Thursday night.  This marks the second-straight season that the 'Belles opened up a campaign with four-consecutive wins.
Junior guard Ashley King led the 'Belles in scoring for the second-straight contest as she scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, going 5-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc.  Senior forward Meghann LeJeune recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds and junior forward Kandra Lakey ended the night with 10 points, all coming in the second half.
ASU held a seven-point lead, 53-46, with 3:41 left in the contest only to allow the Lions to use a 9-2 run over the next 1:20, eventually knotting the game, 55-55, on a three pointer by Rashida Wilson, her only long-distance shot of the night.  On the 'Belles next trip down the floor, Weishuhn was fouled by A&M-C guard Britney Jordan and drilled both of her free shots to give Angelo State back a two-point advantage, 57-55.
The Lions had a chance to take the lead in the final seconds of the game.  Wilson made her first of two free throws with 12 seconds remaining, collected the rebound of her errant second attempt, but a steal by Weishuhn iced the game for Angelo State.
The 'Belles shot a season-low 34.0 percent from the field, connecting on just 17-of-50 attempts on the night.  ASU hit 6-of-11 tries from three-point range (54.5%) and went 17-for-28 (60.7%) from the charity stripe.  Angelo State out-rebounded the Lions, 43-38.
For the Lions (5-4), Jordan ended the night with a team-high 15 points while forward Katedria Mosley tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  A&M-C shot 35.1 percent (20-of-57) from the floor, hitting 3-of-14 (21.4%) attempts from three-point range, and shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the charity stripe.
Next up for the 'Belles is the start of LSC South Division play with a trip to rival Abilene Christian on Tuesday night, Dec. 5.  Game time is 7 p.m. in Abilene.
