Soccer Keeps Rolling

The Angelo State women's soccer team (8-3-1) scored three goals in the second half to extend its unbeaten streak to five games, downing St. Mary's, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in San Antonio.

The Rambelles opened up the scoring in the 67th minute on a penalty kick by senior Christy Knaub, her third tally of the season. ASU upped its advantage to 2-0 on a goal by freshman Brandie DeBacker, assisted by Kristen Boister. The goal was DeBacker's third of the year.

The Rattlers (1-8-1) would find goal in the 77th minute as Elizabeth Rubi scored her second goal of the season off of an assist from Marcey Morales. ASU would counter, however, ten minutes later on junior Jennifer Bukowski's team-leading fifth goal of the season. The goal was made possible on an assist from sophomore Shannon Dean.

With the win, Angelo State has equaled last season's win total of eight games and is now off to its best 12-game start in school history, surpassing the 1998 and 2006 squads' 7-4-1 mark.

The Rambelles will continue its second leg of a three-game road trip on Friday, Oct. 10, as ASU returns to Lone Star Conference play at Northeastern State. Game time in Tahlequah, Okla., is at 1 p.m.
