St. Edward's Advances to Title Game

Kriten Lozano used a bases-loaded, one out fly out that was dropped by the rightfielder as St. Edward's advanced to the championship round with a 3-2 win over top-seeded Angelo State in game 13 of the 2008 NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament at the ASU Softball Complex in San Angelo.

The Hilltoppers (49-15) got a one-out triple by Lexi Stephens to force ASU to walk the bases loaded with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Lozano popped up a 1-2 pitch to shallow right fielder which was dropped, allowing Stephens to score the winning run.

Diana Cezeaux (23-8) picked up the victory as she did not allow a run on four hits in four innings in relief of starter Robin Becker. Lozano went 1-for-4 from the plate with two RBI while Mandy PHillips with 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

St. Edward's will now play third-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma at 4 p.m. later today in the first championship game. With a win, the Hilltoppers would force the "if" game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

For Angelo State, Kari Galm (32-4) was handed the loss as she gave up one earned run on one hit in 1.1 innings of work in relief of starter Brittney Cargill. Laura Lopez led the Rambelles (48-12) from the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI.
