Jessica Johnson went 3-for-3 with a school-record seven runs batted in as she led Abilene Christian to a 10-3 win over Fort Lewis to avoid elimination in game six of the 2008 NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament at the ASU Softball Complex in San Angelo.
Johnson gave the Wildcats an early lead with a two-out single to leftcenterfield in the top of the first scoring Shelby McElvain and Jesica Shiery. However, Fort Lewis bounced back in the bottom of the inning as Jenna Peter launced her 19th home run of the season, giving the Skyhawks a 3-2 advantage.
ACU (33-26) counted on Johnson again in the third inning as she cleared the bases with a three-run, two-out double to leftcenter field. Johnson plated two more runs in the fifth frame on a two-out single. The Wildcats added three more runs in the sixth to ice the victory.
Kim McDonald (17-15) picked up the victory as she gave up three earned runs on seven hits in a complete game. McDonald recorded four strike outs with one walk.
For Fort Lewis, Cary Moone (15-11) was handed the loss as she gave up seven earned runss on six hits in five innings of work. The Skyhawks ended the season at 28-26-1.
Abilene Christian will now play at 11 a.m. Friday morning against the loser of the Southeastern Oklahoma/Midwestern State game, scheduled later on Thursday.
