With a 4-3 lead going into the seventh inning, Central Oklahoma scored three runs to avoid elimination and advance with a 7-4 win over St. Mary's in game five at the 2008 NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament at the ASU Softball Complex in San Angelo.
UCO (36-15) scored four runs in the fifth inning, using doubles by Alley Roberts and Jodi Craig, to seemingly pull away. However, the Rattlers battled back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to tighten up the contest. The Bronchos would used two St. Mary's errors in the final inning to stay alive.
Molly Shivers (13-2) picked up the victory as she gave up three earned runs on four hits with two strike outs in 5.2 inning of work. Alli Blake collected her seventh save of the year as she tossed the final 1.1 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run. Roberts led the Bronchos offensively going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
For St. Mary's, Malissa Magee (36-8) was handed the loss as she gave up four earned runs on six hits in a complete game. Magee fanned seven Bronchos but issued four walks. The Rattlers ended their season with a 53-12 record.
Central Oklahoma will now play at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon against the loser of tonight's Angleo State/St. Edward's contests.
