Morriss receives LSC honor

For the second time in the last three weeks an Angelo State baseball player has been honored by the Lone Star Conference as senior Jason Morriss has been named the LSC Diamond Hitter of the Week announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.

Morriss, a 5-11 shortstop who hails from Brisbane, Australia, hit .500 with a home run and three doubles as the Rams took 3-of-4 games from Tarleton State over the weekend. Morriss went 6-of-12 from the plate with five runs scored, five RBI and drew four walks as ASU evened is LSC record. He hit safely in all four games, picking up multiple-hit games twice. In Friday's second game 18-6 win over the Texans, Morriss went 2-for-4 from the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. He hit his first home run of the season in Saturday's 4-3 win in the series finale.

Morriss is the second ASU player to receive the league's honor. Senior Chris Adamson received the same honor after the first weekend of the season.

The Rams travel to Tahlequah, Okla., this weekend for their next series when they will face Northeastern State. The Rams and RiverHawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday with both twin bills set to start at 12 p.m. None of the games will be broadcast nor will live stats be available.
