‘Belles Drop Pair to West Texas

Game 1 | Final Box  //  Game 2 | Final Box

CANYON
– Despite Angelo State senior Alix Dean extending her hitting streak to 10-consecutive games Saturday, the Rambelles dropped a pair of games to Lone Star Conference foe West Texas A&M at Lady Buff Yard.

Angelo State (35-8, 11-4 LSC South) surrendered a few early runs in game one and entered the third inning down, 3-0. ASU's Brittany Astle led off the third with a single and would eventually score on a Chelsey Walters' double. After an RBI single by Kaycee Taylor, Walters touched the dish to make it a one-run game. With runners on first and second, Kacie Easley found the right-center alleyway to bring home a pair and put the 'Belles up, 4-3, heading into the bottom half.

West Texas A&M (32-12, 9-6 LSC South) responded, scoring three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth, which proved to be too much as the Lady Buffs went on to win game one, 8-4.

WT's Marci Womack (16-6) picked up the win, throwing a complete game and striking out nine, while Jessica Newsome took the loss (6-2).

In the rubber match, Angelo State got on the board quickly. In the top of the first, Dean began a two-out rally with a single to right field followed by an Easley infield hit to the pitcher. An errant throw by WT's pitcher allowed Dean to score from first, and give the 'Belles the early edge.

The Lady Buffs' bats rattled in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on five hits with the biggest hit coming from the bat of Kaitlyn Witte. With the bases loaded, the senior lifted the ball over the center-field fence for her second grand slam of the season.

Angelo State's Elsa Apo and Astle each had a solo homer late, but it wasn't enough as ASU dropped game two, 5-3. The Lady Buffs' Shelbey Cockrell earned the win (16-6), while Claire Molina took just her fourth loss all season (17-4).

The Rambelles will return to the ASU Softball Complex for a doubleheader against St. Mary's Wednesday at 4 p.m. Live stats, live streaming and live audio will be available for both games on AngeloSports.com, while Jeremy Bryant will broadcast the game live on KKSA 1260.
