SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Lone Star Conference announced the men's and women's basketball preseason poll today with the Belles tabbed fourth and the Rams eighth.
The Belles are coming off a 13-15 overall record and a 10-10 LSC record that saw the group fall to Tarleton State in the LSC Championship semifinals. In her 13
th season as ASU head coach, Sally Walling Brooks' team only loses one senior and returns the 2011-2012 LSC Freshman of the Year in
Haylee Oliver.
A total of 10 players will return for the women's team with six newcomers to add to the mix. The Belles will host an exhibition game against Lubbock Christian on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Junell Center. The season opener is scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. with St. Edwards.
The Rams finished last season with an 11-17 overall record and 4-14 in the LSC. Only three players return for Fred Rike's sixth season at the helm. A total of 12 newcomers (six freshman, five juniors, one senior) will hit the floor this season for the Rams.
The Rams will open their season on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m.
Tarleton State was selected as favorites in both the men's and women's preseason poll. Abilene Christian's Mackenzie Lanfgord West Texas A&M's Donald Simms were named Preseason Players of the Year.
