Callicutt Named LSC Freshman of the Year

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State football team had three named to the Lone Star Conference All-Conference first team and Clayton Callicutt was named the LSC Freshman of the Year.
 
“It is a great honor for these individuals to be recognized by the coaches in the LSC for their outstanding play this season,” ASU head coach Will Wagner said. “Our guys are excited about the awards but understand that the team's success is our main goal.”
 
Callicutt is the sixth ASU player to win the LSC Freshman of the Year. He was the third leading tackler with 61 while playing defensive end. The Crosby native recorded five sacks and nine tackles for loss. Along with the honor he was tabbed to the LSC Honorable Mention team. Other Rams who have won the award include Dakarai Pecikonis, Kyle Fox, Greg Stokes, Gerry Aldridge and Charley Franklin.
 
Three Rams were selected to the first team all-conference team. Joey Searcy II earned a first team spot at defensive tackle. He collected 38 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and six tackles for loss.
 
Blake Smith earned first team honors at the fullback position. He gained 179 rushing yards and scored one touchdown. Avery Rigg was tabbed as first team deep snapper. It is Rigg's second time to be honored on the LSC All-Conference team.
 
Rams that earned second-team honors include Isi Cocker (center), Antwon Williams (tight end), C.J. Akins (wide receiver), Rush Seaver (linebacker), Alvin Johnson (defensive back).
 
Trent Davis (offensive tackle), Pecikonis (wide receiver), Austin Benson (defensive end), Callicutt (defensive end) were named to the honorable mention list.
 
It is the third career honor for Pecikonis while it marks the second for Johnson and Benson. 

Blake Hamblin was named to the LSC Football Academic team for the first tiem in his career. The junior threw for 1,704 yards and 14 touchdowns in eight games.
