CANYON, Texas – In a tug-of-war series, No. 23 West Texas A&M pulled Game 3 in its direction after Meghan Brown hit a three-run home run to lift the Lady Buffs past Angelo State, 4-3, on Saturday in a Lone Star Conference showdown at Lady Buff Yard.
The Rambelles (26-5, 10-2 LSC) jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first inning thanks to the timely hitting of
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti. The senior scorched a two-run single to right field to score
Morgan Spearman and
Lauren Smith. ASU stretched its lead 3-0 after manufacturing a run in the fourth inning.
Chelsey Walters hit a leadoff double and then advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt from
Taylor Jensen. The junior shortstop scored after
Amanda Wilhelm hit a pinch-hit, sacrifice fly.
West Texas A&M (22-10, 7-5 LSC) took advantage of an Angelo State error in the fourth to make it a 4-1 game. An inning later, the game's momentum shifted in favor of the Lady Buffs after Brown hit a three-run blast to left center to put WT up 4-3.
WT's starting pitcher Marci Womack retired the final six batters to secure a 4-3 win. Womack (11-5) earned her second win of the weekend, going 7.0 innings and striking out three. ASU's
Mary Kate McKay (11-3) took the loss, but tossed a complete game, striking out three and scattering seven hits.
