Apo Named LSC Female Athlete of the Year

She is the fourth Rambelle to win LSC’s top honor

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State's Elsamartina Apo was named the 2012 Lone Star Conference Female Athlete of the Year and becomes the fourth Rambelle to win the award.

“This is an awesome honor for an awesome individual,” ASU head coach Travis Scott said. “Elsa was a huge influence on our team and ASU softball would not have accomplished what it did without that influence. With the quality of the talent in the LSC, I know that Elsa is humbled to have received this highest of awards. ”

Apo helped lead the Rambelles to the program's sixth conference crown. She was the LSC Softball Player of the Year and earned NFCA first team All-American honors. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native paced the nationally ranked Rambelles all season, as ASU (48-11) was one win away from making a trip to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. The senior led the team in batting average (.424), on-base percentage (.545) and walks (40). The third baseman slugged .655 with 11 doubles and nine home runs, while finishing the season with 52 RBI.

Abilene Christian's Nick Jones was named the LSC Male Athlete of the Year. The other Rambelles to win the honor are LaTasha Mosley (2003), Michelle Hofmann (2004) and Aisha Adams (2010).
