SAN ANGELO – A pair of last-second 3-point attempts to try and force overtime rimmed out and the Angelo State men's basketball team fell 65-62 to Texas-Permian Basin on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams (3-10) led by as many as eight points in the first half, but the Falcons (3-7) used an 11-3 run to go into halftime trailing by only two points at 32-30. UTPB, which sweeps the season series against the Rams with the win, also had a 15-3 run in the second half to take a 53-39 lead before the Rams stormed back to threaten at the end of the game.

Ryan Marsh and Bryan Hammond led Angelo State with 14 points each (both career highs) and Jovan Austin scored 11 points and paced the Rams with five assists. Reggie Sutton added 10 points, but a deep 3-point attempt by the freshman just missed as the buzzer sounded in the Junell Center. Dakota Rawls added nine rebounds and four points in the ASU effort.

The Rams shot seven points above their season average at 45.5 from the field, but struggled on 3-pointers by making only 2 of their 11 attempts. UTPB led the Rams 32-27 in rebounding and 26-22 in points in the paint, while the ASU bench outscored the Falcons' bench 19-9 despite being down to only two players on the bench at the end of the game due to injuries.

Madison Turner led UTPB with 16 points on four 3-pointers, while Anthony Dees had 13 points and four rebounds. The Falcons shot 48.9 percent from the floor and made seven 3-pointers.

The Rams return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday against Northwood University at the Junell Center in their final non-conference game of the season. ASU will then close out a four-game home stand next Wednesday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
