Five Rams Score in Double Digits in 96-85 Win Over York College



ANGELO- All five Angelo State starters scored in double-digits as the Rams defeated York College 96-85.

The Rams (4-0) held the Panthers (3-2) to 40-percent from the field while ASU lit the scoreboard up at 61.7-percent from the floor including 73.3-percent in the second half. ASU won the rebounding advantage 42 to 33 over the Panthers and outscored York in the paint 64-22.

Kenny Williams, Daniel Skinner and Omar Gudul all recorded double-double. Williams led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Skinner added 17 points and 10 boards while Gudul chipped in 13 points and a team high 12 rebounds.

Tommy Woolridge and Bryan Hammond had 10 and 19 points respectively to give the Rams five players with double-digit points.

Three Panthers scored double figures led by Andre Vaughan's 24 points. York College hit 11 three's in the game with seven coming in the second half.

The Rams jumped to an early 8-2 lead with 16:06 in the first half but York kept the first half close. The first half had seven ties and six lead changes.

Hammond made a layup as time expired at the end of the first half to give the Rams a 40-36 lead.

The Rams came out in the second half ready and started a 13-2 drive within the first five minutes of play to go up 53-38.

A couple of fast-break dunks by Skinner helped the Rams keep the momentum going. Skinner and Hammond led the team with six assists on the night.

The Panthers got within seven with a 1:20 to play but the Rams were able to outscore York 6-2 to end the game.

The Rams will return to action next weekend with a pair of non-conference games against Northern New Mexico College and Western New Mexico at the San Angelo Medical Center Classic Powered by Foster Communications.
