Rams Improve to 5-0 with 91-71 Win Over The Eagles

The Angelo State men's basketball team earned its fifth-straight win of the season with a 91-71 win against Northern New Mexico at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center on the first day of the San Angelo Medical Center Classic Powered by Foster Communications.

The Rams (5-0) held the Eagles (4-3) to 40.3-percent from the field while ASU shot 54.4-percent including 58.6-percent in the first half. ASU also went to the free-throw line 45 times and outscored Northern New Mexico in the paint 42-20.

Kenny Williams, Tommy Woolridge and Chantz Chambers all scored in double digits for the Rams. Williams led all scorers with 16 while Woolridge and Chambers had 15 and 13 respectively.

Woolridge started off hot for the Rams in the first half scoring eight points including two three-pointers in the first three minutes of play. The Rams started the game on a 20-7 run and used it to be up at half 45-30.

In the second half the Rams led by as much as 27 after a dunk and free throw by Williams with 8:47 left to play. Omari Gudul, Williams and Daniel Skinner all made baskets in transition to keep the Eagles on their toes.

Northern New Mexico was led by Matthew Brito with 18 points and Eric Garcia with seven rebounds.  

Next up the Rams will face Western New Mexico (0-2) tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the final game of the San Angelo Medical Center Classic Powered by Foster Communications.
