Rambelles Host No. 1 West Texas A&M on Thursday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team will host No. 1 West Texas A&M for an important three-game Lone Star Conference series on Thursday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. at the ASU Softball Complex.  

The Rambelles (22-9, 7-2) earned a series win over No. 19 Midwestern State this past weekend in Wichita Falls. ASU held the national leader in slugging and average to a .235 batting average and only a .346 slugging percentage.

ASU will try to improve on an uncharacteristic home record of 6-6 this weekend. Since 2002 the Rambelles only have three other seasons of five or more losses at home. The team's batting average (.311) has been lower than the overall (.321) and the earned-run average is considerably higher from 3.29 on the season compared to 5.30 at home.

Morgan Spearman and Rachel Moore have been the bright spots while at home. Spearman is hitting .486 with five doubles and 12 RBI's while Moore is at .417 and has 12 RBI's.

During conference play, the Rambelles are hitting .319 and holding teams to a 2.78 earned-run average. Sandra Serna is holding teams to a 1.77 ERA and has a 4-0 record. Serna has only given up six runs. Kacie Easley is leading the team in conference play with a .500 average and 10 hits. Moore is tops with eight RBI's.

ASU is hitting .321 as a team and limiting opponent to a .282 average on the season. The Rambelles have stolen 49 bases on the season and are slugging .490.

A quick start leads to good things for the Rambelles. ASU is 10-1 when scoring in the first inning and are 15-1 if they are the first team to score.

West Texas A&M is 25-2 on the year 3-1 on the road. The Rambelles hold a 21-9 advantage all-time and is 10-3 at home against the Buffs.

Friday's games will both be carried locally on 1260 KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
