By Wes Bloomquist || wes.bloomquist@angelo.eduDENTON – Texas Woman's evened the season series with the No. 19-ranked Angelo State soccer team with a 3-0 Lone Star Conference win over the Rambelles on Friday at the TWU Soccer Field.
TWU scored its first goal of the night on a 29th minute penalty kick by Natalia Diaz after ASU goalkeeper
Shantel Wittke received a yellow card. A one-goal deficit for the Rambelles held for the first 36 minutes of the second half until Emily Davila lobbed a shot over Wittke in the 79th minute to make it 0-2 and then Megan Coppedge scored the third Pioneer goal in the 85th minute off an assist by Diaz on a penalty kick.
The Rambelles (10-2-1, 3-2-1 LSC) allowed three goals for the first time this season and have now been outscored 0-5 in its last two contests after falling 0-2 last Sunday at Eastern New Mexico. ASU was held scoreless for the third time this season and was limited to only three shots on goal by the TWU defense.
TWU led the Rambelles 17-11 on total shots and the Pioneers had 10 shots on goal in the game. Wittke matched her season-high with seven saves, but ASU's offense was unable to match TWU in finding the back of the net.
Sierra Anderson led ASU with three shots with two being on goal, while
Haley Mendel and
Tiffany Dang each added two shots and
Ashley Exford,
Selena Alvarez,
Morgan Sibson and
Brianne Brown had one shot. Brown had ASU's third shot on goal in the game in the 80th minute and Mendel hit the post in the 60th minute for one of the better Rambelle scoring opportunities.
Arianna Morrision made three saves for TWU in 90 minutes in goal, while Erin Bolinger led the team with four shots and Davila, Coppedge and Diaz each had three shots.
The Rambelles return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Texas A&M-Commerce where they'll face the Lions who are coming off 1-2 loss to Midwestern State on Friday. ASU dropped to second in the LSC standings with the loss paired with Eastern New Mexico earning a 1-0 overtime win over West Texas A&M on Friday. ENMU now has 12 points in the standings, while ASU is at 10 and Commerce is third with nine points.
