No. 7 Rams Seek to Extend Its Win Streak Against Northern New Mexico

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 7 Angelo State Rams basketball team will look to increase it win streak to eight games on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m.

After emerging from the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic with a pair of wins, the Rams are currently 7-0 on the 2015-16 season. ASU Head Men's Basketball Coach Cinco Boone joins the likes of Ed Messbarger, Fred Rike and Chris Beard as the Rams current starting record marks only the fifth time in ASU history that a team has started with seven wins and no losses. ASU has only previously faced Northern New Mexico College Angelo State once which resulted in a 91-71 victory for the Rams.

The Eagles are currently boating a 4-3 record as of November 30 and will be coming off a December 1 match-up with the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons in Odessa, Texas. NNMC also has two previous opponents in common with ASU in which the Eagles dropped both close match-ups to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Adams State University. 

The Rams continue to lead the Lone Star Conference in several categories. The productive ASU scoring offense is averaging a LSC high 96.3 points per game, while its scoring margin is also tops in the conference averaging a differential of 21.6 points per game. From the line ASU is knocking out a conference second .510 percent of its foul shots. The squad also has no qualms about sharing the ball as they lead the LSC with 18.86 assists per game.   On the defensive side of the ball ASU is second in blocked shots (6.33 AVG/G) and is tied for first in steal s (8.71 AVG/G)

Averaging a team high 17.6 points per competition and .452 3-point shot percentage, Tre Bennett leads the team's offensive attack and is currently boasting a team high .850 percent free throw percentage having made 34 of 40 from the line this season. The point guard has proven to be an excellent facilitator leading the squad with 31 total assist which averages him 4.4 per game. This past week the senior scored a season high 25 points against Missouri Western State and has marked double figure points in five of this seasons seven games.

Stedman Allen was a constant for the Rams in it two victories over the Thanksgiving weekend. The senior forward dropped a team leading 40 points for ASU. He shot .667 from the field and from the line sinking 18-27 field goals and 4-6 foul shots. He pulled down 13 total boards with seven coming on offense and six on defense. Allen also added a steal to his defensive numbers.  He is currently the team leader from the field shooting a .636 percent and averaging seven points per game from inside.

Completing the offensive category leaders is junior Shelton Boykin. The junior led the Rams against Missouri S&T in the final game of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic recording his first double-double of the season. He leads the squad with 13 steals on the season and is second in field goal percentage with a stellar .568 sinking an average of six per game.

Leading the ASU defense, senior Omari Gudul has recorded a team high 19 blocks and 61 rebounds this season. In last week's match ups he amassed a team high seven blocks and nine defensive and eight offensive rebounds in two games. The forward has dropped in 61 total points on the year in which he added 17 points to during the Thanksgiving Classic stroking 7-12 from the field and 3-4 from the line.     

Also making solid contributions to Angelo State's current undefeated record has been Prince Foster, Thomas Tshikaya, Quay King and Shaquan Rhoades. Foster has been an all-around player for the Rams as he is currently second with seven total blocks and third on the team with 19 assist on the year. Tshikaya has pulled down a team second 43 boards and is averaging 6.1 per game. King has been a threat from beyond the arch dropping in 16 3-pointers on the year. Finally, Rhoades is second on the Rams with a .929 free throw percentage and has recorded 18 assist this season.  

Wednesday's game against NNMC will be carried on 1260 KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call
