DENTON, Texas – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team won game one of a Lone Star Conference four game series 8-1 over Texas Woman's but the second game was postponed due to weather in the top of the eighth inning tied at five.
The Rambelles improved to 21-5 and 7-4 in the LSC recording seven hits and eight runs in game one. TWU falls to 12-13 and 4-3 in the LSC and was limited to three hits.
Texas Woman's got out to an early 1-0 lead in game one after three consecutive singles off
Brandy Marlett. She ended a threat with runners at first and second with her only strikeout of hte game. The earned run is only the freshman's 13th earned run allowed this season.
The Rambelles bats were held in check until
Tina Cisneros hit a leadoff double in the fourth inning. The senior would score on an error by the shortstop.
Lanie Robinson gave Angelo State a 3-1 lead belting a two-RBI double to left field that scored
Rachel Moore and
Ciara Sheppard.
ASU continued scoring in the fifth as
Micherie Koria and
Megan Granado each drew walks.
Camry Weinheimer increased the score to 5-1 with double to right center. Â
Marlett stopped any threat from TWU. After the first inning three hits, the Pioneers failed to register a hit in the final six innings. The Henderson, Nev., native moved to 12-2 on the season with the win.
Madison Greenwell singled to right field to plate Robinson and
Amber Rendon to extend the lead to 7-1 after six innings. One more run came in the seventh after
Kelly Johnson scored on a fielder's choice for the 8-1 final.
Game two was going into the top of the eighth inning when weather postponed the game.
Kenedy Urbany hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning before TWU's Kendra Sancet tied it at five with a home run in the bottom of the inning.
The game was tied at one until TWU took a 4-1 advantage in the second inning with three runs and three hits off Urbany.
ASU started to chip away at the TWU lead as Weineheimer doubled to left center to score Urbany in the third to make it 4-2.
Down two outs in the top of the fifth, Weinheimer drew a walk. A
Rachel Moore single followed by a
Darian Dunn walk loaded the bases. Robinson and Granado earned back-to-back bases loaded walks to tie the game at four before the sixth inning.
The Rambelles will return to action at 1 p.m. Game two will be resumed followed by the scheduled doubleheader in Denton.Â
