Rambelles Lose 5-4 to Cameron in NCAA Division II South Central Regional

CANYON – Cameron used a three-run fifth inning and scored one run in the sixth to defeat the Angelo State softball team 5-4 at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.

The Rambelles (33-16-1) out hit the Aggies (40-16) 10-8 and had a 3-1 lead going into the fifth inning until Cameron scored three runs to take the lead.  ASU will face West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. tomorrow in an elimination game.

"I am very proud of the way that our team played today," ASU head softball coach Travis Scott said. "We did everything correct to win a game. Kenedy (Urbany) pitched an outstanding game, we hit the ball well and played great defense. Ig we can continue to play ball like that, we still have a chance to win this thing."

Micherie Koria hit her second triple of the season in the top of the first and scored on a RBI single from Megan Granado. The Aggies tied it in the third with a triple and sacrifice fly from Tara Martini.

Madison Greenwell put ASU in the lead with a timely hit. The freshman hit a two-run home run to left field, the first in her career at ASU, to put the Rambelles on top 3-1.

Kenedy Urbany only gave up four hits through the first four innings. She kept Cameron's potent offense at bay until the fifth inning. Cameron added three runs on two hits to take a 4-3 lead going into the sixth inning. The Aggies added a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-3.

Granado cut the deficit to 5-4 with a solo home run to center field. It is the senior's fifth home run of the season. Tina Cisneros singled to keep the inning alive but CU's Kelsey Watson ended the game with a strike out.

Urbany was credited with the loss pitching 6.0 innings giving up five runs on eight hits.

The Rambelles and Lady Buffs have played four times this season. WT took three of four games in San Angelo. Three of the four games were pitching duels. Audio of the game will be carried online with Daniel Ramirez on the call.
