COMMERCE, Texas – The Angelo State softball team dropped a pair of games 4-1 and 6-3 to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday in Commerce.
The Rambelles (30-19, 14-14 LSC) were limited to 11 hits and four runs while the Lions (36-16, 18-14 LSC) scored 10 runs on 17 hits. ASU left 17 runners on base in the two games.
ASU threatened in game one in the top of the second inning. A single to right field by Becky Wilhelm started the inning. She moved to second on a fielder's choice and stole third base for her first stolen base of the season. It would be as far as the freshman would get being stranded on first.
Texas A&M-Commerce grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. A single by Kenedy Urbany in the third put a runner on but she was stranded as well.
Texas A&M-Commerce added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-0.
Alexis Evans put Angelo State on the board with a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was the junior's third home run of the season.
Morgan Hill was credited with a loss and is now 5-6 on the season. She threw 5.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. The sophomore struck out six batters and walked four.
Urbany started game one off with a bang after a solo home run to centerfield to put ASU up 1-0. The Lions responded with five runs in the bottom of the first.
ASU again struggled to get the big hit with runners in scoring position. The Rambelles left the bases loaded in the fourth inning.
The lead was cut to 5-2 after Madison Greenwell and Bailey Wallace pulled off a double steal of home and second base in the top of the fifth. TAMUC pushed the deficit back to four with a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2.
The Rambelles threatened in the seventh as Greenwell scored again to make it 6-3. Evans and Bailey Wallace were left stranded as the game ended.
Brandy Marlett was credited with the loss and is now 14-8. She gave up six runs on nine hits while striking out six.
The Rambelles will host St. Edward's on Wednesday, April 20 for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Â
