Rambelles Season Ends in NCAA Division II South Central Regional

SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State softball team had its season end with a 4-1 loss to St. Mary's in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional on Friday night in San Antonio.

The Rambelles end the season at 37-22 while St. Mary's improves to 45-12 with the win, and advances to face Texas Woman's in the South Central Regional final.

ASU was able to get on the board first in the top of the first inning. Kenedy Urbany led the game off with a single to center field and was moved around to third. The junior took advantage of a passed ball that was ruled an error to score and put the Rambelles on top 1-0.

Brandy Marlett, who started her third straight game, breezed through the first two innings sitting down St. Mary's in order.

The Rattlers were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, a walk followed by double to left center tied the game at one. A single on the next at-bat put St. Mary's on top 2-1.

The Rambelles had a runner at third in the top of the fourth inning but Kelly Johnson was thrown out on a pitch out to end the ASU threat.

St. Mary's added two more runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 4-1.

Angelo State had runners on in the fifth, sixth and seventh but was unable to get the timely hit needed to start a rally. The Rambelles stranded six runners in the game.

Marlett was credited with the loss and finished the season at 19-11. She pitched 3.1 innings and gave up four runs on four hits. Morgan Hill came in relief and pitched 2.2 innings and held St. Mary's scoreless.

It was the final games for senior's Ambra Hill and Lanie Robinson. The duo ends their careers with a 148-73-1 record, one LSC Tournament Championship, and four straight appearances in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
