ODESSA, Texas – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team swept its LSC series with UTPB by winning the series finale 13-3 on Saturday morning in Odessa.
The Rambelles (43-4, 21-3 LSC) recorded its most hits (14) and runs (13) since scoring 23 runs on 23 hits against ENMU. The Falcons (8-36 5-18 LSC) was held to three runs on five hits.
"It was a great start in the first inning getting base hit after base hit," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Anytime you can eight runs in the first inning it is going to be a good start. Taegan Kirk had an unbelievable weekend with everything she hit on a line. We did what we needed to do and should have done. We have a big two weekends ahead of us."
ASU jumped on the Falcons early with eight runs in the first inning. Madison Greenwell, Bailey Wallace, Taegan Kirk, Amanda Ramage and Brooke Mangold all recorded hits. Greenwell and Wallace each had two hits in the inning and Mangold hit a three-RBI double with the bases loaded to break the game open. Wallace followed it up with a two RBI single up the middle to make it 8-0 after one inning.
Taegan Kirk highlighted the second inning with a solo home run to left center.
Kenedy Urbany got the start in the circle and limited UTPB to two hits through the first three innings of the game.
The Rambelles added to their 9-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Mangold recorded a career-high five RBI with a single up the middle to score two. Greenwell scored the final two runs with a two RBI single to left field.
Greenwell, Wallace and Kirk were a perfect 3-for-3 and each recorded two RBI.
The Falcons were able to spoil the shutout in the fourth with one run and two unearned runs in the fifth before Urbany ended the game. It is the senior's 16th win of the season. She only gave up five hits and struck out two.
The Rambelles will host St. Edward's in their final non-conference series of the season on Wednesday, April 19 at 4 p.m.
