Rams Hit the Road for Matchups With Cameron, Midwestern State

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State basketball team will go back out on the road this weekend, taking on Cameron at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Lawton, Oklahoma before facing Midwestern State at 4 p.m. Saturday in Wichita Falls.

The Rams (15-5, 6-4 LSC) are coming off back-to-back wins last week after taking down Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday and scoring a season-high 109 points on Saturday against non-conference opponent Dallas Christian

ASU's 109 points Saturday was not only the most this season, but the most scored by a Ram team since scoring 115 against McMurry in December of 2015. The Angelo State offense is currently No. 3 in the Lone Star Conference and No. 31 nationally, averaging 84.9 points per game.

A balanced attack has helped the Rams score so often. No one ASU player ranks in the top ten in the LSC in scoring average, but four rank in the top 20 and eight players on the team are averaging at least seven points per contest.

The offense has also been helped by a consistent attack from behind the arc, as ASU leads the conference with a three-point percentage of almost 40 percent.

Averaging 13.1 points per game is guard Ja'Michael Brown, who is also second on the team with 67 assists and averages 3.5 rebounds per game.

Behind Brown and contributing on all sides of the ball is guard James Kirksey. The Pennsylvania native averages 11.9 points per game, but also leads the team in assists and steals and is second in rebounding average.

Forward Brandon Williams is the ASU leader in rebounding average, pulling down 6.3 boards per game. Williams also leads the team with 30 blocks and a .621 field goal percentage while averaging 11.6 points per game. The senior scored a career high in the Rams' most recent conference matchup, getting 22 points and 10 rebounds against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The fourth and final Ram with a scoring average in the double figures is Will Adler, who also leads the conference with a shooting percentage of .458 from behind the arc. Adler has hit from downtown 54 times this season to lead the team and is averaging 11 points per game.

Just under the double-digit scoring average mark sit Antonio Singleton and Daron Mims, both of which are averaging 9.6 points a game. Singleton does a lot of his damage from the free-throw line, taking the second most attempts on the team and hitting at a conference-leading .887 clip. Mims has been strong on three-pointers as well, shooting better than 40 percent from behind the arc.

Kiar Crouch and Davion Cole-Johnson have also made an impact averaging 7.8 and 7.0 points per game, respectively.

Other Rams contributing this season include Ran Tut, who is second on the team in blocks, and William Tchiengang, who has played in all but one contest this season.

Cameron comes into the Thursday-night matchup after a big win last Saturday over conference-leading Texas A&M-Commerce. The Rams and Aggies have faced off once already this season, with ASU taking the win, 81-58.

Midwestern State is currently 7-14 on the year with a 3-8 showing in the LSC. ASU also took the first matchup with the Mustangs with a 94-82 win in December. MSU will take on Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday night before facing the Rams on Saturday.
