No. 2 Rambelles End Weekend with 10-2 Win Over Adams State

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The No. 2 Angelo State softball team capped off the CMU Invitational with a 10-1 five inning run-rule victory over Adams State on Sunday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Rambelles finished with a 4-1 record at the CMU Invitational and three of the four wins came via run-rule victory.

"We started slow offensively but finally got some big hits from Madison Greenwell, Taegan Kirk and Karina Rocha in the third," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Morgan Hill was sharp today and Makayla Corbin got her first full inning of work. We are ready to be at home and play in front of our crowd for the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge next weekend."

Adams State jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first. ASU's Morgan Hill gave up a solo home run but it would be the only hit the Grizzlies (1-4) would record for the game. After the hit, Hill sat down 11 in a row.

It wouldn't be until the third inning that the Rambelles got on the board. Angelo State broke through in a big way with seven runs and all coming on two outs. Brooke Mangold was the first to score on a single by Madison Greenwell. Greenwell would steal second and later score on a wild pitch. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, Teagan Kirk hit a single to left field to score two more. That brought up Karina Rocha with two on base. The sophomore crushed her second home run of the season to left field to make it 7-0.

The Rambelles added three more runs in the fourth. Heather Reatherford drew a leadoff walk and would score after two wild pitches and a passed ball. Greenwell singled in her second straight at-bat and scored on a passed ball. Mylonee Becerra added the final run with a RBI single down the left field line.

Maykayla Corbin came in for the final inning and didn't allow a hit to close out the game.

The Rambelles will host the ASU George & Ola McCorkle Challenge starting on Friday, Feb. 9. It will be Youth Weekend at ASU with all kids 12 and under wearing a youth league jersey receiving free admission when accompanied by an adult.
