SAN ANGELO – The No. 6 Angelo State softball team limited Cameron to just one hit in a 3-0 win in the South Central Regional final and will advance to host the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18 at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles (50-7) held their second straight opponent scoreless and only allowed two runs in 21 innings of work. The Aggies (32-20) only had two base runners the entire game and struck out 10 times. Angelo State will now host the South Central Super Regional, a best of three series, for the second consecutive season.
"I am extremely proud of our group," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "To be able to come out in front of a huge crowd and perform was great. It was a great environment. We look forward to hosting Super Regional next weekend."
Cameron would get its only hit of the game in the top of the first on an infield single. Morgan Hill would settle in and sit down 11 straight batters. The senior only faced two over the limit and would strike out 10 batters.
ASU took little time to get on the board. Madison Greenwell stood at first after a single and Teagan Kirk was at the plate. The junior crushed a ball that bounced off the top of the fence for a RBI double and a quick 1-0 lead.
With Hill sitting down Aggies batters, the Rambelles would add a run in the fourth. Danae Bina hit a triple to the right center gap and made a slide around a tag on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
A leadoff triple by Greenwell in the fifth turned into another run on a Bailey Wallace sacrifice fly.
After a walk in the fifth, Hill sat down the final six batters including three strikeouts. The senior tied her career high with 10 strikeouts in her 24th win of the season.
The Rambelles will face Texas A&M-Commerce or Tarleton State at Mayer Field in a best of three series starting on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. and game two will be on Friday, May 18 at 2 p.m. and the if necessary game set for 4:30 p.m.Â
