SALEM, Virginia – The Angelo State softball team had its season come to an end after a 3-0 loss to Southern Arkansas at the Division II College Softball World Series at the James I Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
The Rambelles conclude the season with a 53-9 record and went 113-16 over the last two seasons with consecutive LSC Championships, an LSC tournament championship, and back-to-back South Central Regional titles. The Muleriders (59-10) were able to score three runs on eight hits.
"Today was not who we are as a team," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Give credit to Southern Arkansas and the teams we played this week. I don't want this team to remember this weekend but to remember the wins, championships and excitement. I'm proud of the way they competed and were able to represent Angelo State."
It seemed ASU would have a quick start as Madison Greenwell led off the game with a single but the senior was left stranded at third base at the end of the inning.
Southern Arkansas got the lead in the second with a solo home run off starter Brandy Marlett.
ASU looked to get on the board in the fourth with a single from Taegan Kirk and a walk by Taylor Fogle. A passed ball with two outs put both runners in scoring position but a strikeout ended the inning.
The Muleriders added a run in the fifth and sixth to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Rambelles tried to rally in the seventh with a two-out walk but pinch runner Heather Reatherford was left stranded as the game ended.
It was the sixth trip to the Division II College Softball World Series for Angelo State and the second time in program history they won back-to-back South Central Regional titles.
