Rams Travel to Canyon to Face the Buffs

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No.25/23 Angelo State University football team heads to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.

The Game
Angelo State heads to Canyon, Texas, to take on Lone Star Conference opponent West Texas A&M on Saturday, October 19. The Rams enter the weekend 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action. These two teams met last season in San Angelo with the Buffaloes claiming a 26-18 victory over the Rams. Angelo State currently leads the all-time series, 17-14. In the last 10 matchups, the Blue and Gold trail 3-7 with their last victory coming in 2017 at home in a 51-3 blowout.
 
WEST Texas A&M
The Buffs host the Rams in a brand new stadium where they are currently 3-0 at home. WT also holds a 5-1 record overall and 2-1 in conference action. The Buffs traveled to Odessa, Texas, where they played the University of Texas-Permian Basin and claimed a 14-10 victory. Duke Carter IV leads the Buffs offense on the ground with 340 yards on 87 carries and averages 56.7 yards a game. Chase Sojka leads the receiving team with 210 yards on 18 catches.

The Rams returned home to host Western New Mexico University on Saturday, October 12 for homecoming. ASU defeated the Mustangs, 31-14. The Rams battled hard in the first half to claim a 17-14 lead heading into halftime. Late in the third quarter, Kaleb King punched in a 3-yard run to push the Rams lead to 24-14. In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Daven Manning rushed for two-yards to the end zone to insure the 31-14 ASU victory. Lawson Ayo caught a career-long 68 yard pass and completed the play in just 11 seconds in the second quarter. Ayo finished the game with 102 yards, his first 100-yard game of the season. Manning finished the day with a career-high 134 yards on the ground in 21 attempts.

After a 31-14 rout of Western New Mexico, the Rams jumped back into the rankings at No. 25/23. The Blue and Gold fell out of the rankings due to the loss against No.4/5 Tarleton State. Leading up to the game against Tarleton, the Rams burst into the rankings at the No. 23 spot after upsetting No. 14 Midwestern State to knock MSU out of the rankings. The last time the Blue and Gold were ranked was back in the 2015 season. Angelo State started in the No. 6 spot at the beginning of the season and dropped down to No. 23-25 towards the end of the season.
