Rams Fall on Senior Day

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State University football team's playoff hopes crashed down on Saturday night as its season ended against No. 23 Texas A&M – Commerce, falling 17-3. Daven Manning finished the night with 68 rushing yards to lead the rushers.

The Rams finish the season 8-3 overall and 5-3 in conference action.

In Case You Missed It:
  • Angelo State's first possession of the game ended in a 42-yard field goal by Connor Flanigan to put the Rams on the board and gave ASU the 3-0 lead.
  • The Blue and Gold kept its only lead through first quarter until the final three minutes of the quarter when the Lions charged down the field and scored with 18 seconds remaining to take a 7-3 lead.
  • Both teams went scoreless through the second and third quarters and neither team was able to find momentum.
  • Early in the fourth quarter, Cristion Brown made a huge stop on defense causing and recovering a fumble on a Lions 3rd-and-12 to give the ball to the Rams. However, ASU was unable to capitalize and had to punt the ball away.
  • In the Lions next possession, the Rams defense held TAMUC to just a field goal as the Lions increased the lead to 10-3.
  • Angelo State held Texas A&M – Commerce to its lowest score of the season at 10 points until the final two minutes of the game, when the Lions' Tyler Guice punched in a 2-yard rush at the 2:17 mark to increase the lead and claim the victory, 17-3.
Key Players:
  • Manning led the rushers with 68 yards on 18 attempts. He finished with 70 all-purpose yards.
  • Keke Chism finished the night with 37 yards on four receptions and brought down a game long 19-yard reception.
  • Defensively, Hunter Kyle finished the night with six solo tackles and eight assisted. He registered two sacks for seven yards.
  • Leddy French had a big night recording to breakups and one sack for seven yards.
